In 1853 a sawmill was erected here. Two years later in 1855, a flour mill, the Rough and Ready Mill began and a town by the same name was born. The nearby town of Aetna Mills (Old Etna) was flourishing. miners traveled through here from Trinity Center, Salmon River, and Scott River to replenish themselves. The 1861-62 flood destroyed the distillery operated by Whiskey Smith on Whiskey Creek, taking much with it.
At this point what was left of Aetna Mills merged with Rough and Ready where the old post office of Aetna Mills was moved. Today's "pioneers" continue to paint a portrait of that, which made up the Old West, still holding dear the values of those gone before.
